Janus "Jan" F. Olsen III. 70, died Thursday, August 16, 2012 at Sanford Medical Center, Sioux Falls, SD.

Jan was born in Portland, Oregon and grew up in Pierre, SD where he graduated from Riggs High School.  He received a BFA from USD and then attended Luther Seminary in St. Paul for one year.  He left the seminary to join the army and was stationed in Baumholder, Germany.  After his discharge he returned to Pierre and worked for the state highway department until he returned to graduate school.  In 1971 he received a Masters Degree in Library and Information Science from the University of Western Ontario in London, Ontario.  For the next 24 years he worked at libraries in Pierre, Mitchell and Aberdeen, SD, Casper, Wyoming and Sioux City, Iowa.  In 1995 he went to work at Gateway Computers and retired in 1997 due to health problems.

He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Dori (Scheetz) and one brother, Arthur Olsen of Brandon.
