The trip to Clementon Lake Part

My first bike was a 24 inch, fat-tired, no-name brand bicycle, I had it fixed up at the bike shop in Laurel Springs. On many summer days I'd, carefully cross the White Horse Pike, I get up to speed, flying across W.T. Grants parking lot. Then I'd swing around the building and at the back there was a well worn walking/bike path, worn right over the a dirt pile intended to block the rear entrance. I'd ride over the dirt and sometimes stop at Rowan's lake to throw a few stones. By the time I'd get to Higgins avenue, I'd look down the street, aware of some of the people I remenber from school days. I'd remember Ken Cole, Cheryl Cole, Bill Beaver, Joanne Richie, Pauli (something). Ed Lucky, others. Looking the other way was the imposing Higgins Hill...the perfect sleding hill in winter time. I knew when I started back home I'd probably ride up the back side of Berlin/Clementon road and fly down Higgins hill on my way home. Anyway, I'd continue on some turning and twisting road and the old, quaint little houses that bordered Silver Lake as I'd head toward Clementon Lake park. Once I was on Berlin/Clementon road, more friends came to mind: Tom Rahme, Julia Kirk. Continuing on I listened to the clacking of the roller coaster and the buzzsaw sound of the fearful Salt and Pepper shaker...

Ahhh. Summer in Clementon.

I remember the dam on Silver Lake and how that path took you around to Silver Lake Drive and if you went the other way, you'd end up behind Silver Lake Inn and at one time, just across the street from the Inn, the Clementon(?) airport.

Memories.
