Harvard “Harvey” Miller - Class Of 1963

                                       Rest In Peace, Harvey

August 12, 1945  -  May 7, 2024

On May 7, 2024, Harvard V. Miller, III, “Harvey,” age 78 of Stratford. Beloved husband of Kathleen Miller (nee Grehan). Loving father of Douglas Grehan Miller. He is predeceased by his father, Harvard Vance Miller, Jr. and his mother, Dorothy Miller (nee Weist). He will be missed by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Harvey grew up in Clementon, NJ and graduated from Overbrook High School, where he lettered as a three-sport Varsity athlete. He went on to attend Murry State University, in Kentucky, earning a Bachelor of Arts Degree. During his third year, he met Kathy. She soon became his wife for the next 56 years. Both graduated and moved back to their home state of New Jersey, and were married in 1967 in Bordentown, NJ.

Starting in 1967, Harvey coached baseball, golf, and football at Edgewood High School. He eventually focused on coaching football and transitioned to Overbrook High School. During his tenure as head coach, they won the Olympic Conference American Championship in 1994.  In 1998, Overbrook had an undefeated year, winning the Olympic Patriot Championship, South Jersey Group IV Championship, as well as #1 for the Courier Post Cup. He was awarded NJFCA 1998 Coach of the Year, and inducted into the NJSCA Hall of Fame, class of 2001. Harvey also won the 1994 American Division Golf Championship at Edgewood High School.

He was an avid golfer and had two club championships: Pine Crest Golf Club, Champion Flight – Club Champion 1990, and Pinelands Golf Club, Champion Flight – Club Champion 1992. If he was not able to play, he never lost his love for watching the sport. He particularly loved the Masters. It was not just golf and football; he loved all sports. Relaxing while watching the Phillies play an afternoon game was one of his favorite things to do.

Harvey enjoyed spending time with his family. He loved to take Kathy and their young son, Douglas, to the Phillies game at Veterans Stadium. Then as Doug got older, he enjoyed going to Flyers games with him. Harvey also loved history. He was deeply knowledgeable about historical topics, but what he loved was taking his family on vacation, and always finding a way to tie in a significant history lesson. Vacation was not just a time to let your mind go to waste, but also a way to educate Douglas about a plethora of history. History is not all reading.

Harvey battled his Parkinson's Disease for many years. He was always reading and learning. The past few months he was fighting several injuries and ailments. Kathy and Doug were always by his side, giving him support and love.  They were both with him at the end.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing on Tuesday evening 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm at the ORA L. WOOSTER FUNERAL HOME, 51 Park Blvd., Clementon, NJ 08021. Funeral services will begin at 7:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research, P.O.
