Denise Marie Wheelbarger, 57, of 2101 Shady Drive, Elizabeth City, NC died Thursday, February 14, 2013 at her home. Born in Camden, NJ, she was the daughter of the late John and Marie Cunningham Mortka and was the wife of Dale Wheelbarger, Jr. Mrs. Wheelbarger was employed by the Department of Public Safety as a secretary. She was active with the Encore Theater. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Wheelbarger is survived by a daughter, Eleanor Hoescht of New Jersey; two sons, Jasson Hoechst of Virginia Beach, VA and Jesse Hoechst of New Jersey; a stepson, Jason Wheelbarger and wife Melisa of Elizabeth City, NC; three sisters, Christine Hutchinson of Tampa, FL, Michelle Parsons of Franklinville, NJ and Lois Spokane of Clementon, NJ; a brother, Joe Mortka of Lindenwold, NJ; and numerous nieces, nephews and dear friends. A funeral service will take place Wednesday, February 20, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Twiford Memorial Chapel with the Rev. F. Joe Griffith officiating. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 7:00 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home; immediately following the service at the funeral home; and at other times at the residence.
