Rest In Peace Rosemary
Rosemay Berkey
AGE: 92 • Pitman
Rosemary Sharpless Berkey, age 92, passed away March 18.
Rosemary "Rosie" was born in Millville to the late Byron and Mae (Stiles) Sharpless. At under 5 foot, her passionate nature made up for her stature. She was the third of five children - the only sister to her four brothers. Attending Glassboro College during to WWII, Rosie became a teacher in Pine Hill. It was here where she met and married her late husband, Richard Berkey Sr. as he entered the Navy.
After the War, Rosie continued her educational career - her passion and pursuit in life - in Clementon, and eventually with several South Jersey high schools as a reading and learning disabilities specialist.
After retirement, she travelled through Europe with friends and family. Though trips may have been short-lived, the memories created during those adventures will last a lifetime. Rosie had a variety of interests and enjoyed a number of art hobbies. She was both enthusiastic and creative about these projects and shared her interests as she volunteered for children's programs. Residing at Pitman Manor for the past three years, she was grateful for the care she received.
Mother of the late Richard Jr. (Dorothy) of Turnersville, survived by son Lee (Deborah) of Denver, CO, Grandchildren: Melissa Berkey-Gerard (Mark) of Phila., PA, Richard lll (Erin) BelAir, MD., Kimberly (Jeff Potts) and Kyle (Natalie Harden) both of Denver. Great grand children Cana and Kai, and brother Harry of Canada.
Rosie was both a strong-willed and tenacious woman. Her passing will be celebrated by her surviving family and her rum balls missed.
Cremation was private.
A memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family.
