Rest in peace, Bruce
On August 19, 2026, Bruce Mumie of Clementon, age 91 years. Beloved husband of 70 years to Marian (nee Richard) Mumie. He is survived by daughters Karen (Steve) Gregory and Bonnie (the late Bob) Weaver, grandchildren Rachel (Tony) Salvatico, Nicole Gregory, Jennifer Gregory, Megan Gregory, Steven Gregory, Mickey Gregory, Michael Weaver, Leigh Weaver, and Emily Weaver and great grandchildren Adele and Penelope. He was preceded in death by son Rob (the late Denise) Mumie and grandson John Bruce Mumie II.
Born on July 10, 1935 in Germantown, PA, Bruce moved to Lindenwold with his parents and younger brother when he was 12 years old. He excelled at the then Lower Camden County Regional High School (Overbrook HS) where he graduated in 1953 with his Varsity letters in football and archery. He was a proud graduate of Moravian College (B.A.) and Lehigh University (M.A.) where he earned his English and teaching degrees.
Bruce taught for four years at Lower Camden County Regional High School and then found his true calling as a learning disabilities specialist in the Washington Twp and Medford School systems until his retirement from public education in 1990. Even in retirement, Bruce continued to work part-time with Camden County College, Cooper Hospital Regional Center, and the Camden County Educational Services Commission as a private learning consultant. In all, Bruce dedicated 40 years to helping children and adults alike navigate their learning journeys.
After retirement, Bruce filled his days with his favorite activities: golfing, fishing, canoe trips with family, woodworking, and carving. Bruce was an active and faithful member of St. Paul's Presbyterian Church in Laurel Springs where he taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School and served as Elder and Clerk of Session. He loved music and art and even used his gift as an artist to brighten the halls of The Colony apartments with his paintings for all residents to enjoy.
Bruce was civic-minded and served the Borough of Clementon, where he lived for many years, as a Councilman. As a founding member of the Clementon Historical Commission, Bruce took great pride in the opening of the Clementon Museum and in his work to help preserve Clementon’s story and artifacts for generations to come.
Bruce’s own legacy is secure through his loving family who will remember him for his humor and quick wit, his big brain, his bigger heart, his ukulele, and his patience.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation with the family on Thursday August 27, 2026, from 10am to 11 :30am at St. Paul's Presbyterian Church, 433 Park Avenue., Laurel Springs, NJ 08021. A memorial service will begin at 11:30am. Arrangements under the direction of the Ora L. Wooster Funeral Home, 51 Park Boulevard, Clementon, NJ 08021. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations in Bruce's name to St. Paul's Presbyterian Church at the above address.
