Matt "Cip" Cipollini
Matthew Eugene Cipollini of Los Angeles, California suddenly passed away on Thursday, August 14, 2025. Matthew was born on February 25, 1961, in Indiana, Pennsylvania. He was the son of the late Christine Yanity Cipollini and John M. Cipollini.
Matt was a remarkable human being of great intelligence and creativity, and he will be missed by a wide circle of family, friends, and colleagues. He was, in many ways, a larger-than-life figure, truly a renaissance man. Matt was a gifted athlete who excelled almost immediately at every sport he played. Most notably, he was a nationally ranked diver and award-winning basketball player through his high school years. He was such an active leader in sports and other activities that he appeared throughout the Churchill Area (now Woodland Hills) High School yearbooks of his era. Matt's love of sports endured, and he became an avid beach volleyball player, skier, tennis player and golfer.
Along with athletic prowess, Matt was a talented artist, was selected for the Pennsylvania Governor's School for the Arts and majored in fine arts at Carnegie Mellon University and Indiana University of Pennsylvania. He also achieved a Master of Fine Arts degree in Museum Administration from Penn State. Following graduate school, he worked as a curator at the Hirschhorn Gallery and an account executive in public relations in Washington, D.C.
With great business acumen and tremendous charm, Matthew could sell anything and found great success, first with Shaw Industries, then as cofounder of a startup tech firm in the early days of the dot com revolution, later as a consultant with Gartner and, most recently, the Los Angeles Senior Director at Costar.
Matt had a beautiful and contagious smile, that was only surpassed by his kindness. Matt lived "la dolce vita" with an urbane and sartorial elegance. His only dislikes in life were green beans and mayonnaise. Matt loved to cook and entertain, (he made the best Pasta Bolognese), and travel, especially to his ancestral Italy. He loved music and was a passionate guitar player and collector. The fan base for Pittsburgh sports teams is legendary, and Matt may possibly have been the most loyal fan ever of the Steelers and Pirates. Whether by satellite TV, internet, or AM radio, he kept tabs on every single game for decades, no matter where he was in the world, waving the Terrible Towel and raising the Jolly Rodger.
Remaining to cherish Matt's memory are his loving wife, Darlene Dezelan Cipollini, and their adorable Yorkies: Rocco, Gia, and Mia, his brother, John Cipollini and wife, Jeanne, Mark Cipollini and wife, Jayne, and his "soulmate sister," Gina Cipollini Driscoll (aka "Skipper") and husband, Joe Driscoll, nephews: Alex and Stephen Cipollini, nieces: Angela and her husband Andrew Cupo, Annette, Christie, and Julia Cipollini.
Matt and Darlene have been devoted to the wellbeing of animals, supporting the ASPCA and rescuing Yorkshire Terriers. Rocco, Gia, and Mia are their current pack, and Matt could be seen with his Yorkies every day on their walks, proudly showing them off to the community.
Those of us who love him mourn his loss, however we celebrate a life well lived, the joy he brought to our lives, and the beautiful, indelible mark he made on the world.
A service to honor his memory will be held on Saturday, August 30th at 11:30 AM at Church of the Good Shepherd, 504 North Roxbury Drive, Beverly Hills, CA at 11:00am with reception to follow at the Good Shepherd Parish Hall.
