Judith Hahn

HAHN
JUDITH SCHMIDT
58, a teacher at Saint Theresa's Catholic Elementary School in Loudoun County, Ashburn, Va. passed away peacefully surrounded by her beloved husband and children at 6:45pm on Christmas Day at home after a year long battle with metastic melanoma. She and her husband, Michael P. Hahn celebrated their 34th wedding anniversary on August 10, Judy was the loving mother of Matthew M., Harrisburg, PA, Kathryn "Katy" E., and Andrew S. Hahn of Ashburn, VA; she is also survived by her sisters, Denise Schmidt (Aiello) Hilka (John) and Nancy Schmidt Mazzocco (Bernie) and her brother William E. Schmidt (Michelle) all residents of Pittsburgh, PA. Judy was the daughter of the late Robert N. & Vivien E. Schmidt of Pittsburgh, PA. She was a 1968 graduate of St. Basil's High School and a 1972 graduate of Duquesne University where she majored in Elementary Education. She later earned a Master's Degree in Communications from Bloomsburg University in 1999. Following graduation from Duquesne, Judy taught in the Newport Virginia Public School system and later at Queen of the Apostle Catholic School in Arlington, VA. She left the profession to raise her children which she considered to be her primary responsibility and to support her husband who was employed as a Special Agent with the FBI in the Cincinnati, New York and Philadelphia Division and at FBI Headquarters. Upon her husbands transfer to FBI headquarters, Judy had the opportunity to continue her love of teaching at St. Theresa's School in Ashburn, VA where she taught Language Arts and Religion. Over the course of seven years at St. Theresa's Judy had the opportunity to pursue the profession she loved while making a positive impact on the lives of so many of her students. After becoming ill with cancer she often reflected on her love for the students, staff, and parish families of St. Theresa's.

Dear Family and Friends,

The Memorial Service for our sister, Judy, has been finalized.  The Duquesne University Chapel will be the site of the memorial mass on Saturday, February 21st at 10:00 a.m.  After mass there will be a "continental breakfast" in the Citiview Room, located on the sixth floor of the Duquesne Student Union, which is across the street from the chapel.  We are looking forward to celebrating Judy's life here in Pittsburgh and hoping that you will be able to join us (Judy's husband, Mike, her three children and our family) in remembering her on this day.

It would be greatly appreciated if you could RSVP to me by email, if you think that you will be able to attend, as I need an approximate number for the breakfast. There is an indoor parking lot off of Forbes Avenue.  I will email directions at a later date.

For those of you who have been inquiring regarding contributions, you may do this by sending a check, made payable to
St. Theresa School with a notation on the check memo:

Judy taught Language Arts and Religion for the past seven years at St. Theresa's.  She often reflected on how much she enjoyed working with the students, staff and parish families...and how much she missed them and looked forward to returning...and they loved her!!!  I can't tell you how many times over the course of this past year, I witnessed an outpouring of that love!!!

Thank you again for all of your prayers and words of encouragement over the past year...they have been so comforting and consoling to all of us...and were especially comforting to Judy!!!...she was in awe of the number of people who kept in touch and were praying for her....

Love,
Denise
