Phil was another Sunset Hills guy and in many of the earliest class photos from Julia Ward Howe Grade School.  A quiet guy, but very smart as I recall.  He lived on Catalpa Place, same as me until about 1950 when I moved. We had some good times together and I remember him well.  I had occasion to meet him again in the early 2000's in Buffalo, New York, where he was president of a small aeronautical engineering company. He was leaving that company but landed on his feet as it's when he began (or furthered, not sure) teaching at the college level.  We had some good talks about the "old days" in Mt Lebanon.  Rest in Peace, Phil.
