Gale Lawrence, respected and loved author, teacher, naturalist, gardener, walker, and detailed observer of nature passed away on 8-22-2024 at age 83 in a nursing home in Burlington, VT.  Her celebration of life will be 9-22-2024 at Birds For Vermont Museum.

Gale was pre-deceased by Bob Spear (1920-2014) and by her parents John Lawrence (1918-2002).  She leaves behind her siblings Carol Matzke, Rod Lawrence, Anne Wessel, and Johanne LaGrange, her caregiver as well as numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Gale was born in 1941 in Springfield, VT.  She spent most of her childhood in Pennsylvania and Texas.  She recieved her undergraduate degree from Earlham College in Indiana and her masters degree from Emory University in Atlanta, GA.

Thirty years after leaving Vermont she returned in 1975 with her cat, Hussy.  She met Bob Spear and he lived with Gale for 40 years until he died in 2014.

Gale went to Mt. Lebanon High School for two years.  (9th and 10 grades)   Her parents moved and she had to go with them.
