Dave was kind, quiet, inquisitive kid who goes back in time to my days at Lincoln Elementary. I'm not sure if he had siblings, but I had heard from someone that he had gotten his MD, before an untimely death, perhaps by suicide. So sad.
Sorry, Dave, we should have been better friends that kept in touch.
David and myself and Dave Royer (and one other who I can't remember) had a "singing group" called the Sheiks. We had lots of fun trying to emulate the "do wa" groups of the time. We even tried out for the talent show at Mt. Lebanon HS but failed to make the cut. Anyway, we had a lot of fun getting together and trying to sing. Dave’s father said we were real good and gave us lots of support. Dave was a real fine friend.
David was a master of trivia. We had challenge contests at Lincoln School, and he was hard to beat. Ask him the state flower (of any state), he knew; same with state birds, capitals, etc. I think he had memorized the World Almanac! I always expected to see him as a Jeopardy contestant.
Any of you who were in Miss Nicoson's 9th grade English class must remember the day Dave brought the bubble soap to school. He waited until she turned around to write something on the blackboard and then blew this huge bubble, about the size of a grapefruit. When she turned around, there was the bubble, floating about five feet high in the middle of the room. Unfortunately, she didn't take it all that well. And unfortunately for Dave, she didn't have any trouble figuring out who was responsible.
