She was in my girl scout troup growing up and died in a tragic accident...she always seemed to have a big smile and almost always had good hair days

I was stunned to see Shevawn's name on the board at the funeral home on the same day as my Mom's in October 1983. It just wasn't right for her to be there too. Shevawn and I had spent four years together, every morning in homeroom. She always had a sparkle in her eye and a chuckle for all the rules we were supposed to follow. I don't know if Shevawn ever really "followed" the rules, except in her own way. She had a real zest for life, and I think she really enjoyed every day to the fullest.

Today, October 29, 2008 is the twenty-fifth anniversary of Shevawn's passing. I was fortunate to become friends with Shevawn when her family moved to Pittsburgh from Canada when we were in the fifth grade at Howe Elementary. We shared a lot of years in friendship. Shevawn truly was a unique spirit, ever laughing, smiling and always loving.

Though the years since her death has diminished the sting of emotion felt when I learned of her passing, the years have also stenghthened the memories of our friendship that I continue to carry in my heart today.

Still loving you, Shevawn!

Eileen

Shevawn lived down the street from me on Lovingston Drive. I remember when her family moved here from Canada. At first, like most kids, we were cruel and called her names because she was from some place different. What a bunch of jerks we were. But like most kids, we soon realized that she was just a kid like us. I still can hear her mother's thick, Irish brogue. She was in my girl scout troop too. I was always envious of her beautiful hair. When she died we were heartbroken for her family.

I can't believe Shevawn passed, she was a sweet beautiful girl, in my class at Julia Ward Howe Elementary. I'm sure she was a beautiful sweet woman also.
