Throughout highschool at Allderdice, Alan and I were close friends and we kept up our friendship during the year I spent In Pittsburgh after college in 1973. He was very bright and enthusiasitic and I recontacted him again during the years I spent in Jerusalem two decades ago. He had changed his name to Ilan Chaim and had become devoted to the cause of Israel in the years after the 1967 war in which he fought as a soldier. He introduced me to his wife and a number of members of his close-knit family. It was a joy to be with him and them. I have not seen him again for several years and I will certainly miss him. In Jerusalem he was something of a public figure due to his important professional function as chief copy editor of the Jerusalem Post. The Jerusalem post has written a wonderful article in commemoration of his active and meaningful life. I extend my condolences to his dear wife and family. Jeffrey Andrew Barash
