Doug was one of those larger than life classmates. Another classmate that I go back to Barker Rd. days with. We remained friends through high school and up until he passed. There are many " Doug Turner " stories.  Most are quite comical. Doug was also able to laugh at himself.

He told the story of the day a group of school children took a field trip to the Wegmans that he was the assistant manager at. Doug took the kids on a tour of the store, showing them and explaining the various departments. One of the last stops on the tour took them by the machine that all the cardboard boxes goes in once they are empty. Doug wanted to demonstrate the safety device on the closing doors that prevented your arm from getting stuck in them. Doug told us how he, on purpose, stuck his arm in the closing doors expecting them to sense his arm and pop open. It didn't work that way. The doors continued to close and then apply preasure on Dougs arm. To the horrified look on the kids faces, Doug screamed out in pain and had to ask the teacher of the students to quickly go and get some help. No broken arm, just a nice temporary dent in the skin. Needless to say, the tour ended at that point. Doug had a great time retelling the story to many of us and we all got a good chuckle out of the episode.

Doug was a great friend and one who was always willing to help another person out. He had a big heart. Many of us will remember Doug for being one of the original founders of an annual clambake that continues to this day. He always put a lot of time, energy, and money into making it the fun time that it was and is today.

There are numerous other Doug stories and one only has to find one of the old gang to hear them retold. We were sad to lose Doug and his memory will live fondly on in many of our lives.........................
