From John's wife Monique (Hamby) Mohler

John was born on June 2, 1962 in Phoenix, Arizona.  His dad was in the air force so his family moved every two years until his dad retired from the air force and moved the family to Plainfield.  John was in 7th grade.  He loved to sing and was a member of Belles et Beaux and several musicals while at Plainfield High School.  He also played defensive end for the football team, and played goalie for a club soccer team.

After graduation, John earned a Liberal Arts degree from Franklin College where he was a member of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity and a defensive end on the football team.

A year after John graduated from Franklin, he married Monique (Hamby, Plainfield class of 1982) Mohler and joined the Indianapolis Fire Department.  John spent a majority of his firefighting career at Station 13 as a member of the Hazardous Materials Team.

John and Monique have four children; Elaine Morgan (Mike), Elizabeth Woodruff (Stephen), Michael Mohler, and Matthew Mohler.  His granddaughter, Jayda Woodruff was born 6 months after his death.

Monique is a science teacher at Brownsburg High School, Elaine is a science teacher at Brownsburg East Middle School, Elizabeth is a personal trainer, Michael is a second year law student at the University of Arizona in Tuscon, and Matthew is a senior at Plainfield High School.  Matthew plays defensive end for the football team and plans to be a firefighter like his dad.

John passed away suddenly on March 9, 2009 at the age of 46 of a heart attack.  His wife still lives in Plainfield.
