Reed Nathaniel Decker passed away peacefully May 23, 2026 due to complications from multiple strokes.
Reed was born on June 30th, 1944, the 7th child to Joseph Smith and Golda Thomas Hansen Decker in BLOSSOM, Utah (Warren), they obviously saved the best for last!
Dad's childhood years were filled with love and laughter, and if you knew the “Decker Boys,” you always understood why Dad was the quietest of them and a man of very few words! Lol!
Dad was educated through Weber County Schools and Graduated from Weber High School Class of 1962! Many stories were told about the Little Brown Jug Game and meals with Friends at Combe’s Drive Inn.
Dad served an honorable 2-year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in the Edinburgh Scotland Mission, and always had a great love for that Beautiful country and its people.
On May 5, 1966, Dad married our Beautiful Mother, Laraine Greenwell, in the Salt Lake Temple, where they were sealed for time and all eternity.
In August of 1967, they welcomed the first of 3 children, a daughter, Laree (Squeaky). In June of 1972, another daughter joined the family, Karen (Punkin). Knowing that their family wasn’t complete, in February 1983, they adopted the cutest blonde haired blue eyed baby boy, Lewis (Rooster). Family was everything to Dad, and he made sure we always had what we wanted, even if he went without.
Dad served in the United States Army Reserve for 8 years before enlisting in the Utah Army National Guard, where he remained for the remainder of his military service, completing 25 years.
Dad worked for the Department of Defense for 39 years as an inspector and took great pride in what he did. When times of combat needed evacuation hospitals, we always knew they had Dad's handprint on them somewhere.
Dad retired from the Department of Defense in October of 2001 and became a permanent staple of the Ogden, Utah Temple for many years, serving at times 6 days a week! If you attended, you were sure to have seen his smile!
Mom passed in June of 2006, and it left a void in Dad’s heart. We are joyous that their 20-year separation is over, and the reunion was marvelous, I’m sure.
Dad was preceded in death by his Beautiful Wife, Lararine, his parents, Joseph & Golda, brothers William, Neil, and Leon, and son-in-law David Guymon
He is survived by his children, Daughters Laree, Ogden, Utah, Karen Guymon, West Weber, Utah, and his “Favorite Son” (cause I’m the only Son!) Lewis Decker, Granddaughters, Lainey & Ashtyn of West Weber, Utah
Brothers Dorrel L. West Valley, Utah, Joseph Golden (Sharon) Pleasant View, Utah, Sister Coral Johnson West Haven, Utah, and many other loved ones! https://www.myers-mortuary.com/obituaries/reed-decker

In January of our senior year, Reed and 8 other classmates, including me, enlisted in the Army Reserve. We decided that if we were going to Vietnam, and it seemed likely, we wanted to go with friends. Reed and I were in the same Squad in Basic Training at Fort Ord. We continued to serve together in the Army Reserve Unit for 8 years. When we both worked at the Defense Depot, I would see Reed often. I also saw him many times when I went to the Ogden Temple. Lots of good memories and adventures. I will miss him.
