Robert Heslop

Robert William Heslop, 30, died July 6, 1997.

He was born April 23, 1967, the first son and 2nd child of Carlos H. and MaryLou Shurtleff Heslop. He was raised in Plain City, Utah and attended Plain City Elementary, Wahlquist Jr. High and graduated from Weber High School in 1985. He received his Eagle Scout award, filled an honorable mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to the Florida, Ft. Lauderdale mission. He served in many church callings, and loved the gospel. In 1988, he married Gretchen Anne Slimak in the Salt Lake LDS Temple for time and all eternity. They were a great team, and built two homes and a beautiful family together. Rob loved farming with his dad and seven brothers, and even got the three sisters out in the hayfields, too. He loved the mountains and his new home in the canyon. He was teaching this love to his kids. When he was young, he was in the Jr. Posse and started soccer when it began in Weber County. Most of his younger brothers and sisters followed his example, especially riding motor bikes and soccer. He tried many good jobs and was very handy with tools, and very exact; no half-way completed jobs for him. But he always came back to his life long love for police work. He graduated with high honors from the Salt Lake Police Academy. He then worked in Plain City, Harrisville and Granite School District until he found Vernal and loved it there. They made many friends and planned to stay.
