Scott Edwin McCann passed away suddenly at his Roy home on Saturday, December 23, 2023 at age 56. He is survived by his parents, John and Bonnie McCann, his beloved children, Joshua (Meranda) McCann, Kiley McCann, Daxton McCann, his siblings, Shelley Stratton, Trisha (Troy) Larsen, Tiffany (Chad) Nicholls, his beautiful granddaughters, Emberlee McCann and Kiana Law, and his girlfriend, Denice Gordon. Although Scott didn’t have any biological brothers, he adopted several close friends as his own. Scott was born on December 29, 1966 in Garland, Utah. His family moved from Garland to Sunset in 1968, then in 1979 they moved to their current home in North Ogden. Scott spent his childhood summers at the family ranch in Dairy Creek, Idaho where he learned to love the outdoors as well as camping, hunting and fishing. He enjoyed being in the Boy Scouts and loved his friends he grew up with in Sunset and North Ogden, Utah. He attended Sunset Elementary and Junior High, then to North Ogden Junior High and Weber High School where he received his diploma. He enjoyed wrestling, baseball and track at Weber High School. He loved all kinds of sports and activities like waterskiing, snow skiing and golf besides his great love of all kinds of hunting and fishing. Scott married Barbara Jimerson on January 1, 1986. Together they had his oldest son Joshua Matthew McCann. They were divorced in 1987. Scott later married Heidi Checketts on November 30, 1991. Together they have two children; Kiley Sue McCann and Daxton Scott McCann. Scott and Heidi had a home in Harrisville and later on built their home in North Ogden. Scott and Heidi were later divorced in 2006. Scott was known for his hard work, deep love of sports and the outdoors. He and his dad plus lots of other family and friends built his former home near Ben Lomond Peak. He was willing to share his knowledge and lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it. He was never afraid of hard work, a man of his word and always did his best to improve his life and those around him. After he graduated from high school, he worked at Big O Tires where he became a store manager before he began his long-term career with Kimberly-Clark where he worked hard all the way up to a management position. He then began his career with Northrop Grumman where he loved learning new skills and being challenged. Most recently he was also doing contractual work and project management work again for Kimberly-Clark which afforded him the opportunity to spend time with his oldest son Josh and his family in Texas. Scott’s love for the outdoors was evident in everything he did. He loved spending holidays with his family and friends. He enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing, ATV riding and water sports. Scott was truly a master fisherman and enjoyed his many trips to Alaska fishing for salmon and halibut. He was always an all-around sportsman and hunter, and would hunt with archery, rifle or muzzleloader as often as he could. He took great pride in his hunting and stalking skills such as his ability to call in an elk from thousands of yards away with just his voice. Most of the time he was able to hit his target which was an accomplishment acquired from his many hours hunting ground squirrels on the ranch. His love of the outdoors has been passed on to his children. We will always think of Scott when we are in the mountains, around a campfire, riding ATVs, fishing, hunting or anywhere you can just enjoy the outdoors. His greatest joy came from being with family and close friends with all his outdoor activities. He loved all the time spent at St. John, Dairy Creek or Sourdough around the campfire watching sunrises and sunsets plus enjoying any activities his family and friends were involved in. We miss him so much already and can’t imagine how we are going to live life without him but we know he is in a better place and hope he can watch over us from above. We cherish the time we were privileged to spend with Scott and will never forget his great influence on our lives. Love and miss you forever Scott! Scott expressed his wishes to his family to be cremated. In honor of Scott’s wishes his ashes will be buried at the family plot in Malad, Idaho plus some ashes will be spread at the family ranch on Old Smokey at a later time. His funeral services will be held on January 5, 2024 at the North Ogden 12th Ward, 1791 N 600 E, North Ogden. Visitation will be held from 10-10:45am with the funeral commencing at 11:00am.
