Elaine Clark

Elaine Clark

I am sad to report that my very, very best friend Elaine Clark PHS Class of 1964 passed away in Albany NY on Jully 22nd from cancer, exactly one week short of her 75th birthday. Elaine and I had been friends since first grade., Miss Cully's class, at Wampus School in Armonk. She leaves behind her daughter, Monica, son-in-law Matthew, granddaughter Magnolia and newly born grandson Max. If anyone would like to send condolences to Monica, I know she would appreciate hearing from you: Monica Tucker, 625 Loop Road, Hendersonville, NC 28792.

Becky Ketchum adds:

I got to know Elaine pretty well when we were working on the 50th Reunion plans. She was a tireless investigator when it came to trying to locate all of  the gang from Armonk   and was so excited when she "found " someone. She loved the early years in Armonk and  dug deep for some wonderful old photos. She  also helped arrange the mini Reunion at the old school one of the reunion afternoons. PHS 64 and Armonk especially were very dear to her heart.  I'm glad I had the opportunity to get to know her.

I remember her enthusiasm and how she embraced the 50th reunion. I didn't realize what she did behind the scenes. We've lost a bright star.

I am so saddened to hear about Elaine. She was one of my best friends in high school. I wish I had stayed in touch with her more. I missed the 50th since I live out here in Ojai, California. Rest in Peace!

I'm so sorry to hear about Elaine.  Like some others, I didn't really get to know her until the 50th reunion, then on Facebook, where she so often made wise, supportive comments on others' postings.  I'm sad that I missed her in high school, that I won't have another chance.  Thanks, Elaine, for the work you did for our class, on your kindness and thoughtfulness in responding to our classmates' lives.  Rest in Peace.  Mitzi

This is the saddest news. Elaine is the first person that I remember having just plain silly fun with. She always had creative and slightly peculiar things to add to my life. Our parents enjoyed socializing together and I loved seeing them all happy together. Elaine's poem "Elaine Elaine went down the drain..." has stayed with me since elementary school in Armonk. We chased fireflies together. We were "blood sisters" and mingled blood from our fingers while sitting under the trees at Armonk Elementary. She wrote something secret under the window sill in my bedroom. I think it was about Elvis Presley. She loved him. Once she had me cut up an onion so I became teary-eyed and then she told her mom to come help me with something in the kitchen. Her mother thought I was upset and crying, but we were just being silly. She had me count red converitibles with their tops down and promise to marry the owner of the one-thousandth such car that I counted. The one-thousandth car count was achieved early in my sophomore year at UF. I did marry the guy!! Am I a dufus or what? The marriage was awful. Thank goodness I replaced him with a wonderful fellow who came with me to our reunion (very sadly he is also dead). Elaine was smart, sensitive, sweet and silly. Her smile and the soft look in her eyes could melt your heart. Heaven will welcome her with open arms and I will treasure the memory of Elaine to my own dying day.

Elaine was a great help to Becky and I in gathering photos of Elaine's classmates and life in Armonk going back to grammar school.  We posted many of those photos on this website and in our communications leading up to our actual 50th Reunion, giving our Armonk PHS classmates an equal share of memories of our collective childhoods in the 1950s.  Attached is a photo of Elaine I took at our 50th reunion dinner that Saturday evening in June 2014.  Rest in Peace, Elaine Clark.
