While it has been 5 months or so since Roy and John both passed, I have not been able to bring myself to sit down and send a message in their memory. When I moved to Armonk in the summer before 5th grade, Roy and John were two of the first kids I met. We became friends immediately, thanks the to summer recreation program. As time marched on, we became closer, and in fact, seemed more like brothers than just friends. While we went our separate ways in life and lived miles away, we managed to keep in touch with phone calls and occassional visits. When Roy got married, I was his best man. He would have been mine, except he was on his honeymoon when I married, just one week after his. News of John's death hit like a thunderbolt to be followed just 2 weeks later by Roy's. I talked to Roy by phone on Wednesday before he passed to tell him I would be up to see him on Saturday. Friday morning his wife, Margaret, called to inform me that Roy had passed during the night. A part of me died that morning. I try to celebrate the relationship we had and take consolation with all the great memories. I guess that is what life is all about.
