Roger F. Hicks

Roger Franklin Hicks, 50 of Irvine, was called home by the Lord October 12, 2004 in Brea. He was born November 10, 1953 in Upland, CA and moved to Orange County after graduating from Pomona High School in 1971. Roger loved to surf the California beaches, boating on Lake Powell and Lake Mead, camping and hiking at Zion National Park, Utah, and painting with oils. He collected books and Navajo rugs. Roger is survived by his parents, Virgil and Irene Hicks of Pomona, CA; sisters, Betsy Wahl (Don) of Alta Loma and Dorothy Barelli (John) of Gig Harbor, WA; and brother, Jimmy of Irvine, CA; four nieces and one nephew; three great-nieces and three great-nephews. He worked at Gelson's Market for 28 years, ending up at Dana Point as the receiver. Visitation will take place Monday, October 18, 2004 from 5 to 9 p.m. at Forest Lawn, Covina Hills, 21300 Via Verde Dr., Covina, CA, with Graveside services the following day, October 19, 2004 at 1 p.m. Forest Lawn, Covina is in charge of arrangements.

Roger Hicks had a nickname of "Toad" because of his amazing jumping ability. We used to compete together in the running long jump in 6th grade at Lincoln Elementry School...Roger was a true friend back in the day, and I miss those fun carefree days of long ago. God bless you Toad...
