Clarke Allen Chamberlain-1949-1975  (Obituary)

Irreverent  sense of humor, smart, thoughtful, caring brother, devoted son, good friend, was loved and loved in return, are just a few words that describe the Clarke we knew. Born and buried in Aberdeen, South Dakota..with stops along the way in Illinois, Montana, Wisconsin and Indiana. He lived more in his 26 years than most people live in a lifetime Lettering in wrestling and football, he graduated from Portage High School in 1967. He challenged authority there by smoking in the "pines" outside of school...always Marlboros. He attended college at UW Stevens Point, before being drafted in 1969. In the 1st Cav Airborne Division a\he was stationed in III Corp, Republic of Vietnam. A machine gunner carried 60 pounds of gun and ammo, in blistering hot temperatures during weeks long missions in the jungle. This was not a Boy Scout hike. He was honorably discharged in July, 1971. He rarely spoke about Vietnam and struggled to process his experience. After spending time in Wisconsin (that girl) he returned full time to college in Indiana while working full time on the railroad. He was working on a degree in Environmental Health but a railroad accident sidetracked his plan to catch up with life. In June of 1975, his younger brother Craig was killed in a car accident. Tragically, three months to the day, Clarke lost control of his car, hit a utility pole and was killed instantly. He lived his life with intention. He was smart and always quick with a sarcastic comment. He drank rum and coke, liked Cream and the Doors. He was once observed dancing at Pasquale's to the music of "Jumping Jack Flash".

Left to remember Clarke are his brother Von, sister Kristen, best friend Kenneth Auxier and that girl Sonja Hill.
