Happy New Year, classmates and friend

Hopefully, 2021 will allow us to have our 50 (+1) reunion.  To set a date at this time is still pre-mature.

Chime in with a reply ...

Hey Bulldogs,

I'm getting geared up for our fabulous 50th or 51st.

If anyone is missing a yearbook, I somehow have been the caretaker for maybe the last 10 copies. I have downsized so I will bring them to the Reunion to get rid of them. If anyone wants me to hold one for them let me know.

JV - John Viqueira

JV:

I would be interested in one of the extra yearbooks.  I hope to be able to attend the 50/51st Reunion assuming international travel is possible at that time.

Warmest regards and thank you for all your efforts on behalf of our Class.

Hi JV,  I would love a yearbook as I have no idea where mine went!  I have Anne Sullivan’s 1969 yearbook!  I’m sure we all traded them around.  I am hopeful that Tibor and I will be able to make it to the reunion.  I can’t wait to see everyone!

Hi JV,

I also would LOVE to have a yearbook -- I think mine was an unfortunate casualty of a bad breakup back when I was about 23. Thanks so much,

Marcia (Mulroney) Yates

I have received 4 requests for the extra Year Books I have been holding for the class. I am not sure how many I have since I moved. I left them at a friends in Maryland but I am sure I have enough for the current requests and will try and get a count from my friend.

Hi John. Thanks for your labor of love organizing our 51st Reunion. I am really looking forward to being there, Lord willing. It's so special that our celebration will culminate at my family's former restaurant, Normandy Farm! If possible, could you please save a copy of an extra yearbook for me? And if you or anyone would like to catch up and chat, my number is 540-875-7484. Thanks again and God bless you.

Update:  Looks like I won't be able to attend the reunion...It would have been great to see you guys.  I'll be sorry to miss it. Take care everyone. xoxo

Kathi, I'm so glad you have my 1969 book!  smiley  I'm planning on attending the reunion and look forward to seeing whoever shows up.

John Viqueira: Please add my name to your yearbook list. I would need to arrange mailing to Palm Beach Gardens, FL. It is currently unlikely that I will be able to attend our 50th. Best Regards to you and the Class of '70!

Received a texted photo the other day of a Classmate Connection:

Left to right:  JV, Kay, and Jack Fellows (class of 71).  Perhaps more of a Coloroado Connection as JV and his wife Susie were visiting Jack and Kay in Boulder Colorado.  We all have the private connections with the our closest classmates.  As you know, we're planning a great gathering for our 50th (+1) reunion.  All the info is on the HomePage.  After an early burst or registraints, the activity has tailed off.  Wait no longer!!  Please Purchase Your Ticket(s) and make your Hotel Reservations.  Note that we are tracking a list of those who plan to attend (see the HomePage) but don't wait to act.  Perhaps those anxious to see you are waiting to see if YOU plan to attend.  Remember above all, this is your reunion.

Hi this is curt wolf class of 1970 my wife and I were planning to attend but we have decided not too. By the way I think it's cool to have a reunion but this Chs reunion isn't really for everyone it's for the popular people the jocks cheerleaders the same popular cliques that I saw when my family moved to Potomac the school was a snobby place run by th old Potomac people and somewhat by a pecking order of how rich you are and the kind of car your parents bought you or being a jock. My people I know rejected the cliques and snobbery. Look at who is attending the same popular in crowd that was their as teenagers I never fit in at that school because of the mindset of the people who were blessed to be wealthy so that being said most of you don't know who I am no one will miss me not being their I had rejected the social aspect of Chs soon after attending school. I had plenty of friends other places. So when I looked at who's attending it basically the incrowd so you can relive your glory days. By the way most of you reading this probably think I might be jealous that I wasn't popular or not a rich Potomac kid given everything by my parents not true I always wanted to make it on my own don't believe in handouts I also didn't like cliques or doing what was popular the herd mentality we are not cows I was never part of Chuchill social scene never regretted it. This isn't sour grapes I retired in 2004 for good and I took 5yrs off in the 1990s after selling my courier service then I ran a mortgage company 9 yes I'm also a real estate investor I own 3 homes so I'm not jealous be
Anyway I've always wanted to say this about Chs it's probably why only the popular people attend

Hey, y'all,  I for one am looking forward to coming to this reunion.  I am praying that the Covid virus won't interfere too much, but if necessary, I will be wearing my mask and using hand sanitizer.  I am so interested in finding out what everyone has been doing for the last 50 years!  Thank you to the dedicated reunion committee who have been working for the last couple of years to pull this off.

Howdy y'all
I hope you all have a blast at the reunion! It sounds like fun. I was hoping to come but I think it's best for me to stay put right now.
Oh and just a quick remark to Curt Wolf. I was definitely not in the "in" crowd and I drove a beat up old car. I really feel sorry for you that you still are obsessed with rejection and resentment 50+ yrs later.
Makes me want to cancel a couple gigs and come north lol.

Have a blast folks and if you're ever in Fort Myers Florida, look me up.
Oh and Curt it's not their, it's there.

Curt Wolf

Mr hint I don't care about my grammar and I haven't thought about chs in a long time we were planning on coming saw who was going and realized this is mostly the ones who ruled the school so it's forbpeople to relive glory days maybe that's you I had bigger fish to fry so I'm so glad your worried about my wellbeing I've gotten what I want out of life just decided notvto be around people who might have same mindset and I don't live in the past

Hello everyone from CHS class of 70.... Can't make it to the 50th (51st). Bad timing for me. Hope to get there for the next one or even get to Maryland for a visit. Cheers to all.

To Curt:

Both Fred Foote (who is visiting with me now
in Israel) and I read your note with interest.
We both truly understand your feelings about
our high school years. Speaking for myself, I
can identify with much of what you described.
I did not belong to a particular clique or group.
I thought of myself as a kind of a "nerd". I was
active in a few things because they were important
to me, e.g. student government, music (instrumental
and choral), drama (on stage and off). But I was not
particularly popular. Indeed, my high school years
were characterized by not a little pain and loneliness.
It was a time when I was becoming aware of my Jewishness,
while so many of our classmates were finding
fellowship in Christian organizations. Socially it
was a difficult time. Relations with my parents were
explosive and I ended up spending the better part of my
senior year living and working away from home, part of the
the time with our late classmate, Scott Webster and his
family.

I had few very close friends at Churchill, but the ones
I had were very important to me and helped me through
the crises and the pain. Those years were formative
years and I remember them on occasion here half way
around the world in a country where it seems I have
lived two lifetimes, since leaving Churchill and
, college, DC and the United States.

I hope I will be able to join everyone for the 50/51
reunion. It will not be easy for many reasons. I
am eager to come basically to say farewell to some of
the people I knew in those days. And to compare note
about the last half century during which time we went
our separate ways. This will probably be the last
opportunity for me to participate in a gathering such
as this (my father passed at 79 and I seem to have
inherited his genetic makeup). It is therefore an
important milestone in a personal journey that has been unforgettable
and profoundly full -- a lifetime of blessings and challenges. The
experience at Churchill was a part of that total experience
for which I thank G-d everyday.

I remember you, Curt, notwithstanding my increasingly foggy
memory. We didn't know each other well in those days.
If you do change your mind about coming and if, perchance,
I, too, can manage to come for the Saturday night
event (COVID-19, family and professional responsibilities
permitting, I hope you and I could find a few moments
to sit down together and compare notes. I have a sense
we might have a lot to share with one another.

Whatever you and your wife decide, I want to thank
you for the candor and courage you showed us by
sharing your memories, impressions and feelings, Curt.
As we say in Hebrew, "kol hakavod!" and
G-d bless. If it's appropriate let me take
this opportunity to wish you and yours a happy
holiday season. And if it's not appropriate, may
you and your family find health and happiness wherever
your journey may take you in this extraordinary world

Hey Friends - Interesting comments from all. I think we all have different memories and different people we were either close to had interaction with. I like to think I crossed over several boundaries or groups to get along with everyone. If not so be it but Iook forward to seeing as many people as possible. I certainly hope Marc and Fred can make it because I would love to hear about their journey's. I never thought of them or anyone as a Nerd but thought they were intellagent ( Smart ) which I admired.

Pete - I haven't seen you since East Carolina but hope all is well and hope to see you sometime.

Dave - Bring your gig to the reunion. I always thought it would be great to get a group of our classmates to play together for just a short bit!!

Kurt - I get you but still hope to see you. I remember you telling me of some of your accomplishments a couple years ago and was looking forward to some details.

It has been a ruff few years for me also. I broke a vertebrae 3 years ago, had both knees replaced a little less than 2 years ago and just had an operation to remove my prostrate that had cancer. All these things make you realize that tomorrow is never promised. I hope to be here for the 60th myself and hope to see Mr. Zell there with me. I hope you make 50!! I would share my thoughts on my visit to Budapest and the moving Jewish memorial on the dock there!!

Dave - sorry for any grammer mistakes - English was not my strong suit!!

You are most kind. Maybe when it's cooler and covid calms a bit we can gather somewhere in Florida. A lot of us seem to live here.

Bob Bradley and I are coming back there to the reunion to chew bubblegum and kick ass - and we're all out of bubblegum. Seriously, I look forward to seeing all the old friends again and enjoy once more the warmth of those youthful friendships at Winston Churchill.

I'm a bit surprised by Curt Wolf's views, and the apparent intensity with which he holds them.  As for me, I can say I enjoyed many different classmates from across a wide arc of our class, and, I hardly had more than a dime in my pocket. No one ever asked to see it.

Which, in short, is why I agree with many, many others that we had a great class of 1970 at Churchill - and so I'm excited to come back to see everyone again.

Best from Colorado, Dave Lugert

Seeing Dave's post reminded me of a concert that he, Bob, and I went to in 1969.  Perhaps others of you were there also.  On May 25th we saw The Who at Merrriweather Post Pavillon.  Needless to say, great concert!  But what floored me a few years ago was that when I looked it up, I learned that the opening act was Led Zeppelin.  I had no idea!  Apparently most people attending also had no idea, as there first album had just come out and  it was there first live gig together.   The promoter even apparently spelled their name wrong -- "Lead Zeppelin".    More at https://boundarystones.weta.org/2012/11/15/merriweather-posts-legendary-double-bill

I echo concerns about Curt's comments.

Curt, We talked last year and you were excited about attending the reunion until it got squelched by the bug.  You mentioned that you had reached out to other classmates about them attending as well.  As Marc  stated, we all had trials and pains as we came of age back in the day.  The reunion is about healing and reconnecting anew.  This website was set up to do exactly that.  I hope you reconsider and use the website to contact and classmates that you would like to see encourage them to come as well.

Greetings,

Unfortunatly I will not be able to attend the reunion . I  must admit ....I suspect attending it would help me with memory issues as those years elud me for the most part. I often think about those years of relationships, experimentation and learning.  There are many I  think about fondly. 1969 into 1970 was facinating as some of us attended Woodstock and other festivals. Christmas FL?  Rode our motorcycles there in the freezing cold. I think it was Dave Hintz had the VW bus 'Mother ship" .Camping on the locks? Bambinos? ...Many great memories and many regrets.....Enjoy this get together !
