Barbara Eason Tew

Jan 11, 1943 - Feb 8, 2025

Our beloved matriarch of the Tew family has left this earth. Barbara Eason Tew, 82, of Winston-Salem passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 8.

Barbara Ann Eason was born January 11, 1943, at Rex Hospital in Raleigh, NC to the late William Troy Eason and Ruby Speight Eason. She graduated from Broughton High School in the Spring of 1961. In the years following graduation, she got married and then had four children. While being a single parent, she went back to school, and in the Spring of 1993 earned an associate's degree in accounting from Davidson County Community College. She loved playing and watching golf; as well as tending to her red geraniums and begonias. She was happy to lose herself in dance, whether it was to beach music or to classic rock-n-roll. She loved shopping for clothes, shoes, purses and home decor. She was a great bargain hunter. On sunny days, she could be seen with her ballcap on, cruising around town in her "Baby Z" with the top down. Later in life, she spent her time watching all types of sports, both college and professional and discussing them with anyone who would engage her. Her favorite restaurants were Village Tavern and Bojangles and she would eat there whenever the chance presented itself. Above all was the love and adoration that Barbara had for her children and grandchildren. She reveled in their accomplishments and stories of their day-to-day lives.

In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by her infant brother John Eason and her infant daughter Sharon Tew.

Surviving are her three children: Susan Schweitzer (Kent) of Tega Cay, SC; David Tew (Mary) of Inman, SC; and Cathy Rom (Jeff) of Wake Forest, NC; and five grandchildren: Adam Tew, Christopher Tew (Paula), Jamie Schweitzer, Greg Rom, and Laura Rom

The family would like to give thanks to the doctors, nurses, and the environmental service workers of Novant Forsyth Medical Center, and Trellis Supportive Care. They would also like to give special appreciation to Marvin and Cynde Ball for their friendship and support.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 8 at 2p.m at J.C. Green and Sons Funeral Home, 10301 North NC Highway 109, Winston-Salem, NC. Danny Spainhour will be officiating the service. Visitation with the family will follow immediately after the service. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.jcgreenandsons.com.

Sorry to hear of Barbara's passing.  Barbara was my first date.  We were around 12 years old and the occasion was a Boy Scout Cook Out with family members in attendance.  God bless and keep Her for evermore.

Barbara grew up on the corner of N. Boylan and Hinsdale St., and attended Lewis Elementary along with me, Johnny Brock, Mickey McDonald, Jimmy  Goodman and  Billy Marshall just to name a few. Saw her from time to time at Daniel's and Broughton. I remember a reserved and quite girl , but did not hold back or speak her mind if need be.

So now we add yet another star in the heavens.

RIP Barbara
