Richard M. Eddins "Pop", 73, went home to be with the Lord, April 13, 2016 surrounded by his loving family. Born August 13, 1942 to the late Andrew Lee and Lena Eddins, Richard graduated from Needham Broughton and honorably served in the US Navy from 1963 to 1965. Richardretired as a fireman after 19 ½ years with the City of Raleigh. He was Raleigh's first Arson Investigator. He was a member of the James B. Green Masonic Lodge # 0735 and the American Legion Post #1.
A celebration of life will be held 3:00 pm, Sunday, April 17, 2016 at Friendship Baptist Church, where he was a member, 416 Greenleaf Rd., Angier, NC. Burial following in the church cemetery with Navy Honors.
The family will receive visitors in the church fellowship hall from 2:00 to 2:45 pm.
Surviving: wife, Marie; daughter, Shannon; son, Richard; grandchildren: Jared and Andrew; brothers: Jim Eddins (Gayle), Charles Eddins (Linda); sister-in-law, Carolyn Eddins; brother-in-law, Wayne Griffis, special nieces, and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by brother, Johnny W. Eddins; sister, Shirley E. Griffis.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Friendship Baptist Church.

Richard went to Lewis school located on Glenwood Ave, and lived at the bottom of the hill off Peace Street across from the ball park. He was just a regular kind of guy ,and always had humor up his sleeve. Not a lot of funny stories I can write about here,but he represented Broughton well with his career with the fire department.Kinda lost track of him went we were split into attending Morrison and Daniels. Since Peace Street was the line, he went to Morrison with the exception of some that requested and got reassigned to Daniels. We all have so much to be thankful for, in this day and time.RIP Richard.
