In Memory

Jenny Yates (Summers)

Jenny Yates (Summers)

Frances “Jenny” Yates Summers, 73, of Cary, passed away on September 18th, 2016. She courageously fought a long battle against Parkinson’s disease, always wanting to participate in life even as it became harder and harder to do so. She was fiercely independent, loving, funny and kind. Her family meant everything to her. She spent her life trying to make them happy and feel loved.

Frances was born on October 4th, 1942, in Raleigh, NC, to the late Cleron Stokes and Frances LouiseO’Neal Yates. She proudly graduated from Broughton High School. She enjoyed working as an Administrative Assistant over many decades and with several organizations including White Memorial Presbyterian Church, North Carolina State Government and S.A.S. in Cary.

Frances is survived by her husband, Claude Summers of Cary, NC; daughter Ruth Sochacki Patterson (Rob) of Raleigh, son Robert Joseph Sochacki Jr (Karin) of Heath-cote, Australia, son Walton Yates Sochacki (Mary) of Barefoot Bay, FL and her beloved grandchildren Zach, Mary J, Robby, Zoe, Emma and Summer.

One of Jenny’s greatest joys was being a member of the Lake Norman Yacht Club with Claude for the past 24 years. They both enjoyed racing sailboats and camping with many dear friends over the years. Jenny absolutely loved the beach and could spot a unique sea shell a mile away. She loved to dance and was a devoted Wolfpack fan. Jenny cherished time spent with her family and friends. She was an excellent cook and loved her routine late night snack time or “tea party” as she called it. Even as she was less able to be independent, Jenny was always up for an adventure whether that was exploring the State Fair, going out to eat or just being outside in the fresh air, wheelchair exercising or getting her nails painted. She was witty and sassy and so easy to love.

A memorial service will be held on Monday October 3, 2016 at 3pm at Wake Forest Presbyterian Church, 12605 Capital Blvd, Wake Forest, NC 27587. There will be a reception at the church immediately following the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Transitions Lifecare, 250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh NC.

I am so sad to hear of Jenny's death. My heart goes out to her family and friends. Allan Lee and I first meet Jenny one day at Stevenson's record shop in Cameron Village. I remember she invited us and group of others to her house that was close to Broughton. Her eyes projected a sprit of adventure and independence to all that were fortunate to know her. May the Muses be with you sweet child of freedom!

Jenny was an extraordinary young lady.  Lovely, sweet and kind to all.  Best of all, she was married for an extended period of time to my friend Claude Summers.  Haven't seen you since the reunion in 2001 when I was with you and Jenny at Michele's home.  Had a nice time with all the conversations and remembering old times.  Take care of yourself with my condolences for your loss of Jenny.

Sincerely,

Jim Clark
