Jerry Maxwell

Jerry Myron Maxwell, 71, passed away unexpectedly in Lincoln, Nebraska on July 1, 2015. He was born in Raleigh, NC on July 18, 1943 to John Myron and Thelma (Holmes) Maxwell and was their second child and only son. Jerry graduated from North Carolina State University with a degree in Agronomy in 1965 where he excelled academically and played the saxophone in the jazz band. While working for Elanco in 1968, Jerry moved to Nebraska and met the love of his life, Merry Lynne Keim, after being introduced to her by a mutual friend. The couple was married in 1969 in Ainsworth, NE and then relocated to Ann Arbor, MI where their two beautiful daughters were born, Shannon Lynne in 1971, and Whitney Dyan in 1976.

Jerry’s love of mechanics eventually led him to open Jerry's A1 Tune-Up Center in Ann Arbor.  Coupled with his high work ethics and awesome reputation, the business became a huge success. In 1982, the family moved to Lincoln, NE where Jerry sold Sun Electric automotive diagnostic test equipment. Many years later, Jerry got involved in the buying, selling and repairing of computers and started his own computer business, Maxwell Technologies. During that time, Jerry also obtained his Commercial Driver's License and was a truck driver for the Crete Carrier Corporation.  Jerry ultimately finished up his career path by becoming a driver’s education instructor at Southeast Community College, which was a job he loved to do because he loved nothing more than to instruct and influence young people’s lives.

Jerry was active in all areas of his life. He volunteered as a coach for the Lincoln Southeast High School Trap and Skeet team and became a licensed amateur radio operator, call sign ‘K0KGZ.’ While a member of the Lincoln Amateur Radio Club, Jerry was elected to the Board of Directors in 2004, and was elected Vice President in 2006 and 2007. Since receiving his license, Jerry helped with 43 various public service events. In 2010,in recognition of his outstanding service to the club, Jerry received the Ed Woerner Award for mentoring other ham operators.

Jerry was talented in everything he did. He could fix anything he laid his hands on. Jerry had a friend everywhere he went and always saw the good in people. Jerry loved his many hobbies and tending to his orchids as well.  Jerry also loved and cherished his only granddaughter, Chloe Gwen Wolbert, who called him “Poppy “instead of Grandpa, a name which he would love to the end.  He lived a very full and happy life and loved his family more than life itself.
