So sorry to hear of Marion's passing. She and her husband came to the 55th Reunion. It was good to see her again. Marion was a Homeroom Officer, Secretary, member of the Spanish Club, Y-Teens and the Future Business Leaders of America. We will miss her and all our classmates that are no longer with us.
I'd like to think the Broughton Class of 1967 and all its contributions , small and large, will live on forever.
If you did not have the honor of knowing Marion, you missed out on knowing a wonderful and kindhearted person. Marion and I became lifelong friends beginning in our junior year. Marion lived with my family during our senior year as her parents started their trimaran chartering business in the Virgin Islands. I felt as if I had gained a sister. We faced life together as we supported each other through many ups and downs. We married brothers (Joe and Hunter) but when her marriage to Hunter ended, we still always considered ourselves to be sisters-in-law. Their marriage may have ended but our bond as sisters-in-law remained. Twenty five years ago, she married her soulmate, Charles. I am so glad they found each other as they were a perfect and loving couple. Marion and Charles visited us in May on our ranch in Texas. They loved the peacefulness of sitting on the porches listening to our Purple Martins and looking at the deer. When they were there, Marion and I reminisced with some of the fun and crazy times we had together. We talked about going on runs in her red VW convertible which I now realize we were lucky to have survived! We used to go on what we called the roller coaster road. It was a new development with lots of hills but I have no idea where it was. I am sure it is an old neighborhood now! I shared with her that I don't drink beer because of her! After giving me a confused look, I reminded her of a party she had at her house when her parents were out of town. She used her sister's ID to buy beer and I definitely "overserved" myself! I never drank beer after that! Marion. Dita and Greta came to our son's wedding on a ranch near Kerrville and we had so much fun! She was such a support to me when we lost our daughter seven years ago. We shed many tears together and still cried in May when they were in Texas. Our daughter was a feline veterinarian and Marion's love after her girls and Charles was cats! Manda and Marion definitely bonded over their love for cats. 😻 I could go on with many more memories but will close with the sadness of losing a wonderful friend. Thank you for all of the memories, Marion. I will love you forever❤️
Judy, thank you for sharing the lovely memories about Marion! I loved her too. Marion and I had permits to leave school for lunch (at home). A few of us piled in Marion's red Beetle with the top down (weather permitting) and headed to the Player's Retreat at lunchtime for hot dogs. I can still taste the spicy mustard. But, of course, we were also hoping to spot a cute guy from NCSU in the lunch crowd. We were all good students and normally rule keepers, but this little bit of adventure was a great time and is still a favorite NBHS memory. David, as you wrote, I am also grateful for all the great and small contributions of the class of '67 that continue to bless us all. Judy, you mentioned Kerrville in your message, and I want you to know that I (and many others) are praying for our Texas friends.
