I'll never forget the solemn silence in Ms. Smisson's English class the days and weeks after Tracy's tragic and untimely death. Tracy's empty chair at the front corner of the room was an unwelcome reminder of a life cut short and it was impossible to concentrate on analogies and similes that didn't pertain to death afte that. Ms. Smisson was usually unflappable, but Tracy's absence must have really rattled her because one day she got up and moved the chair. Sending warm thoughts to Tracy's family and loved ones all these years later.
