There will never be another Hal Blackwelder.  The thing I remember about Hal was taking Biology with him under Mr. Bragg.  What a great class we had.  Bragg had us dissecting a cat!  Well, after the dissecting was complete, we asked Mr. Bragg if we could give "Fluffy" a proper burial.  Hal jumped all over it, dressed the part of the old time funeral guy and led our entire class with "Fluffy" to the other side of the football field for it's proper burial.  He was a special guy and kept us on our toes.

I met Hal in my second 4th grade at Sherwood Bates Elementary School. He was still recoverying from polio. Home schooled and just brilliant with a spontaneous sense of humor, I saw how he stood for doing good things, I could not have had a better best friend. We went to the same Sunday School and Sunday fellowship and Boy Scout troop. He was both friend and competitor. He challenged life and met it on realistic terms. I miss him and got to tell him.
