James Cummings Washburn III VIEW PROFILE

After graduation from Enloe in June 1964, Jim enlisted in the U. S. Army that same month and for the next four years served in the Army Security Agency and the Army Special Forces [Green Berets] in Vietnam and Germany.  At the end of his enlistment, Jim married his first wife, Marie Francoise Chorier, whom he’d met while serving in Germany. In 1968, he began his college education at East Carolina University and, after transferring in 1969, graduated with a B.A. in Sociology from N. C. State University in 1972. He and his first wife lived in Raleigh and Baton Rouge, LA, before divorcing in 1982, never having had any children. Jim married his second wife, Denise Mullens, in 1983, while still in LA, before moving with her to Greensboro, NC, where his fraternal twin brother Bruce was living.  While living in Louisiana, Jim had become a personnel analyst for that state and then, after moving to Greensboro with his second wife, he became a personnel analyst for Guilford County, NC.  Jim’s second marriage ended in 1986, without any children, and in 1987 he married his third wife, Anne Marie Taber, and they had two sons together, Jeremy in 1988, and Tim in 1991, and were pregnant with their third son, Daniel, when Jim died of a heart attack at home on January 16, 1995.  His third son was born five months after Jim’s passing.  During his 48 years on this earth, Jim always relished sharing good times and thoughtful conversations with everyone he knew, and he was loved by many people--including many of you who knew him while he was at Enloe High School--and also those who had the great fortune to spend time with him throughout the years following high school graduation.
