Katie was my very first friend when I moved to Raton in 5th grade. She was so friendly and outgoing, and I was unsure about being at a new school. Her kindness and friendship made my transition easy. We kept in touch throughout the years when she went to school in Canon City and after she moved to Texas.
Even when she was sick, she was simply the most thoughtful person. She wrote me shortly before she passed, and this is what she said,"I have had a very good life, and God has been very good to me. I have been very blessed to have good friends (you being a special one). I love you, Terrie. It brings such joy to my heart to see photos of you and your girls. You are such a caring person, and I pray God blesses you through and through in this life because you deserve it.".
She was amazingly strong and gracious even when she was facing difficulties most of us have never had to experience. I will always love her and cherish our friendship.
With a thankful and grateful heart, I'm proud to have been her friend! She touched my life and continues to touch it when I need a bit of inspiration and/or a kick in the butt.
