Born in Fort Hood, Texas, on Jan. 9, 1962, he was a son of Rosemary C. (Carlin) Mountain, Shillington, and the late Thomas J. Mountain.

Matthew was a 1980 graduate of Holy Name High School. He received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Kutztown University.

  He was employed 15 years as a world cultures teacher for the Gov. Mifflin School District, last working in November 2008.

  Matthew was a captain in the Army, serving for five years.

  He is also survived by his brother, Chris J., husband of Donna P. (Lesher) Mountain, Fleetwood.

  Other survivors include a niece, Greta Mountain; and a nephew, Erich Mountain, both of Fleetwood.

  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 10 a.m. in St. John the Baptist de La Salle Roman Catholic Church, 420 Holland St., Shillington, PA 19607. A visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until time of service in the church. Burial will be private in Fort Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.

  In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the church at the above address. Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home Inc., West Reading, is in charge of arrangements.
