It is with a sad heart that I am reading about Dale's passing. He was my date for Sadie Hawkins our sophomore year and while we were never a couple, I considered him a good friend. I was happy to see him at our 20th and again at our 30th reunions. His smile made me smile.

Does anyone know what his cause of death was? Does anyone know if his sister, Debbie, still lives in Redding, or where his son Chris is?

If you have information, please share it with me.

I wish that I knew more about Dale's life after high school. Sadly, I don't. What I do remember about Dale is being in PE with him. Dale and I were basically the same size, same build and pretty much had the same attitude when it came to PE. We liked it as long as it involved basketball, golf or badmintton. Running... not so much.

Here we were in white gym shorts,T-shirt and of course... Chuck Taylor sneakers. It was the day of the dreaded MILE RUN for time. What value that had, I have no idea, but all the guys had to go through it. Girls? Not too sure.

If you lived through it, it proved something...what, I don't know. You had to do it in a certain time. What...12 minutes? Don't remember.  We would run together, urging each other on, only to almost stop and then walk. I'm not sure why the teacher thought we could suddenly run a mile after never training for it, but that was the expectation. Who knew?  I don't know if we had any choice at that point, but we were only going to run as far as we could...nothing more!

So what would happen if we didn't make the mark, not sure. Maybe they would keep us another year or worse,  fail PE. Who could fail PE? I'm never going to remember what our times were, but they didn't keep us.
