In Memory

Erik Olson

Erik Lars Olson was killed in a head on collision in June, 2001.  The driver of the other vehicle was driving drunk.  Please let this be a lesson not to get behind the wheel after drinking.  Call a cab or  a friend but don't put your own or another person's life at risk.

I believe it was a car accident. We are working on trying to get some information posted on those classmates who have passed away and hopefully that information will be available soon.

Erik was killed by a drunk driver. He was on Hwy 44 heading home from my house when a drunk driver got onto the freeway going the wrong way near downtown. They say that Erik tried to swerve and brake while the other driver didn't react at all. Erik's car was so crumpled that they couldn't retrieve his CD case which was on the passenger side of the car. The medics don't think he lived very long after the collision and he most likely wasn't conscious. The drunk driver survived and only got 5 years in prison.

If there's one thing I can tell any of you, it's don’t drink and drive. Call a cab, call a friend, get a hotel room, it's not worth the risk. Don't just do it for your own safety but for the innocent people you will hurt and the destruction you will bring to their families and friends.

I remember hearing about Erik's death the morning after it happened and all I could think about was what was said at our graduation. I don't remember which speaker pointed it out but no one in our class had passed away during the four years we were at SHS. Then within such a brief period after graduation Erik was gone.

Yeah. For those of you who don't remember I was hit by a drunk driver when I was 6 years old on February 11th, 1988. That's the reason I have the horse-shoe of shaped scar on the right side of my forehead. I now have a plate where the bone once was. It's a sad thing when someone so young is hit by these kind of people. It changes lives forever. Don't drink and drive. You could injure and/or kill someone.
