Cheryl Lynn Shell (Cooper)

From Carol Kirksey Cornish, 4/18/22:

With great sadness, I just heard one of our classmates, Cheryl Shell, passed away today from Stage 4 cancer.  Cheryl lived with my family for some time in high school, when things became difficult for her at home. She was the sister I never had.

This is an entry Cheryl's daughter added to Cheryl's Facebook page. Just beautul.

Just saw this on FaceBook…about Cheryl Shell.

My mom finished this last night and we were going to mail them this weekend. She passed this afternoon. I thought it was only right to share. I love you all and I need some time to process.

Dearest Family, Friends & Colleagues:

As some of you know, I have not been well for quite some time.

I was recently diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer and my days are numbered.

I could not deal with calling and having this conversation with each of you—just too difficult.

I am fortunate to have had you in my life and the ones

receiving this already know how I feel about them.

I wish you an abundance of love and the Lord’s blessings.

I do ask of you one small favor:

Live and love like it’s your last day.

I know it sounds cliché — and it is... until it becomes reality.

are hello for the first time

and goodbye for the last.”            —Moira Rogers

Cheryl was a beautiful person. She had a word processing business in the early 2000's and employed me for a brief interlude when I was between jobs. Our mutual friend Carol Franson White once said "Cheryl has a face for wind-blown hair", which is another way of saying Cheryl is always lovely, regardless of the weather. Rest in peace, dear friend.

Cheryl and I became best friends in fifth grade at Lincoln Elemetary, and stayed that way until our senior year when our schedules didn't allow it. We reconnected many years later, but lost touch again. I am deeply saddened my dear friend has passed without us reconnecting one last time. We spent so much time together and looked similar that many people thought we were sisters. From playing with dolls to dreaming about boys, we did it all. In jr high we would coordinate our outfits or have "opposite" days. We'd walk back and forth from our houses (1 1/2 miles apart) after school and would sneak in and out if parents came home and our friend wasn't supposed to be there. In high school I lived closer so we were able to walk to and from school every day. We had a lot of fun together. I miss you, Cheryl. May you be at peace.
