I remember Bob as a carefree delightful individual. I can only assume he led his adult life in the same manner. The world is a bit broken without Bob. Rest in peace my friend, and to his family, our sincere condolences.

Bob and I first met as 10 year olds when we were both “drafted” by the (little league} Lane O’ Lites Beavers.  Although we attended different schools, we connected immediately and remained friends ever since.  In high school, Bob even began referring to himself and his former little league teammates as “dirty beavers.” (Not sure why.)

Generally, Bob was pretty introverted..  He was a big guy, with more chest hair than any high schooler should be allowed to have, but over all was just very sweet, with a great sense of humor and always fun to be around. He got into his share of “mischief” in high school (didn’t we all?), but I don’t think he had a malicious bone in his body.

One of my fondest memories of Bob is when, sitting on the bus that was to take us all to Disneyland for our senior trip, I looked out the window to see him splayed out on the parking lot being restrained by a couple of Rialto’s finest. I believe he had been overserved and sadly, was unable to make the Disneyland trip with the rest of us. (Ah, good times.)

I’ll never forget going to Crestline or the beach (or anywhere, for that matter) in Bob’s iconic, early 50’s Willys (Jeep?) station wagon. Remember that thing? It was metallic blue and a true piece of junk. Still, he loved it and was always willing to go anywhere with it. He would take anybody, anywhere, anytime, in his pride and joy (and this was before seatbelts.)

Finally, one of the people I most wanted to reconnect with at our 50 year reunion was Bob. Sadly, I wasn’t able to do that (he was there on Friday night and I was there on Saturday night), and it’s something I deeply regret now. That means I probably haven’t seen Bob in nearly 50 years. During all that time though, I’ve continued to consider him one of my best friends ever.

Bob was truly “one of the good guys” and I’m really gonna miss him. Rest in peace, my friend.
