Sandra Lee Heggen, 69, formerly of Spring Valley, died peacefully while surrounded by family on
Saturday, Sept. 13, 2014, after putting up a valiant fight with lung cancer.
She was born on June 4, 1945, in Austin to Marvin and Mable Aulwes. She graduated from Riceville High School in Riceville, Iowa.
Sandra was never afraid of a challenge. She was a serial entrepreneur, starting various businesses such as Christmas tree lots, dating service, restaurants and real estate ventures. She even ventured to cook on a crab processing ship for six months in Alaska. As a talented musician, she loved bluegrass music, often getting together with friends for jam sessions. She also loved people, hosting parties and helping anyone in need. She especially enjoyed spending her winters in Arizona with her friends, going to auctions, dumpster diving and shopping Goodwill on senior days. She was the queen of seeing beauty in the things others passed by.
Sandra is survived by her three children, Lori (Mike) Greymont of Morgan Hill, Calif., Christopher Heggen of Remington, Virg., Jennifer (Jason) Jernell of Chanhassen and seven grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and a sister.
A private service will be held at the gravesite with open invitation for friends and family to join at the Travel Lanes in LeRoy on Saturday, Oct. 11, at 11:30 a.m. to celebrate her life.
We ask that any donations be made to www.abreathofhope.org/Donate in memory of her.
