Larry Lee Bird, age 71, of Osage, passed away Thursday, September 22, 2016, at
Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 27, 2016, at
the Osage Alliance Church in Osage with Pastor Jim Stern officiating. Burial
will be in Riverside Cemetery at Riceville. Visitation will be from 5:00 to
7:30 p.m. Monday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage.
Larry was born March 21, 1945, in Osage, Iowa, to Lawrence and Margaret
(Asfahl) Bird. Larry graduated from Riceville High School in 1963, and
received his Associate Degree in Veterinary Technology from Northeast Iowa
Community College in Mason City. On October 2, 1965, he married Linda Kay
Fesenmeyer.
Larry was employed for over 40 years by the Osage Veterinary Clinic and
managed the branch office in Elma, Iowa. In earlier years, he was a dairy
farmer and milked Jersey cows. Larry was a longtime member of the Osage
Alliance Church where he served as head elder. He was also a member of the
Giant Runt Pigeon Club.
Larry enjoyed artistic painting, his teams of horses, giving wagon rides, and
raising birds, rabbits, and other show livestock. He also enjoyed his small
farm and spending time with his family and friends.
Larry is survived by his wife, Linda Bird, his son, Lee (Donna) Bird, and his
daughter, Lisa (Lonnie) Beyer, all of Osage; three grandchildren, Larry,
Lindsay, and Lacey Beyer; siblings, Lucille (Bill) Wieland of Greencastle,
Indiana, Lois (Ron) Rider of Waterloo, and Doug (Linda) Bird of Waverly; and
several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
