Jim DeKoker

Jim DeKoker

Jim died on Oct. 14, 2007, as the result of heart failure.  Although married twice, Jim was divorced at the time of his death.  He was survived by one daughter, Holly, who was born in 1977.  Jim worked most of his life in various automobile dealerships around the Dallas metroplex.  Our thanks to classmate, Ralph Norman, whose research provided this information.

I first met Jim when I transfered from Thomas Jefferson to Richardson Jr High/High School over in the old building on Highland Blvd. I remember he was driving a scooter that last half of the school year and had a Cushman Eagle at the beginning of the next school year. Along with Mike Foster, we three formed a group that stayed together till graduation. During our Jr. year, Jim was the only one to have a car of his own. A 60' ford convertible in bright red. I was at Jims' house one time and saw the model cars he was "customizing" from plastic kits. I did not realize what a roll cars would play in Jim's life. His models were pretty cool at that time and I remember him ( when I drive by his old house on Winchecter) and when I am at the State Fair in the Creative Arts Building where they display the model entries for showing.

We played a lot of sand lot football and baseball in the field between Mike's yard and my house across Beltline road. Jim was bigger then us at that time and was a hard running, hard to tackle player. He was quick to laugh and quick to tease us. We loved it, pain and all.

The last time I saw Jim was as a survice representative working at the Toyota house on central. My car needed work and Jim treated me with professionalisum and care. I can only emagine that Jim treated all coustomers in this manor. His memories are with me still and I wish we had been able to stay in closer touch through the years.
