In Memory

Diane Kopesky (McCann)

McCann, Diane Lynn (nee Kopesky) Diane passed away suddenly at her home on Pelican Lake in Orr, Minnesota on Friday, August 27th, 2021. Although her death was unexpected, Diane will always be remembered as someone who exemplified loyalty, commitment, service, and a love of life. Born Feb. 3, 1962 to LaMond and Marilyn Kopesky, Diane grew up in Richfield, MN and was the oldest of four daughters. She graduated from Richfield High School in 1980, after which she attended the University of Minnesota where she studied Sociology and met her one love, Michael McCann. Mike and Diane began their 37-year marriage on September 8, 1984 and welcomed their daughter, Mollie, in 1987, followed by their son, Evan, in 1989. Diane will be remembered for her commitment to family and passion for life. As the McCanns moved around the country, Diane served as a constant for her kids and husband. She was the glue that held the family together. Wherever they lived, she always made sure they were well-fed, well-loved and hosts of the best party on the block. Whether hosting a Christmas party, a fishing trip in Orr, or any other occasion, with Diane in charge, you knew you were in for a good time. The only thing more impressive than Diane's creativity and culinary skills was her ability to bring people together. She had a contagious enthusiasm for making sure everything was beautiful and that everyone was having a good time. Diane especially loved entertaining and spending time with her family, her dog Finn, and close friends at her cabin on Pelican Lake. She will be remembered for her commitment to serving others. Through a 20-year career with the Girl Scouts, Diane fine-tuned her passion for lifting others, and she took great joy in supporting the Girl Scout mission. Since 2006, Diane has been a strong advocate for the homeless through her volunteer work with Listening House, a St. Paul nonprofit offering day and evening shelter for those experiencing homelessness. She served as the Listening House Board Chair for the past five years. Diane will always be remembered for her wit, artistic flair, sense of humor and generosity, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. She is preceded in death by her daughter Mollie, mother-in-law Lois McCann, father-in-law Thomas McCann, and brother-in- law Todd MacDonell. Diane is survived by her husband Michael, son and "favorite little guy" Evan (Anna Little), parents LaMond and Marilyn Kopesky, sisters Sue Scott (Jay), Linda MacDonell, Patti Meras (Jerry), brothers-in-law Patrick McCann (Gayle), Dennis McCann (Susan Maloney), Thomas McCann (Onanong), John McCann (Lisa), nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews and loving pets, Finn and Bella.
