I remember Fred from our homeroom with Mrs. Childress and being impressed with his description of an Outward Bound adventure the summer before our senior year.  He was a fun guy.

Rick,(Fred was his Dad), was always an outdoorsman. Fishing, hunting, camping. While many of us were embarking to Va Beach for our senior year celebration, Rick was on his way to Alaska to work as a hunter's guide. As Chuck said earlier, Rick had a significant experience of the outdoors in Outward Bound (while it begs some level of credulity, Rick swore that while in the wild with only one match, a thread and safety pin, he actually gained weight over the 3 days he foraged, hunted and fished in his solo). As chubbly little boys, folks sometimes confused the two of us. So I want to say for all that knew him, for his wife Beth and daughter Mariah, he will hold a special place in my heart and in the hearts of many outdoor-loving folk who knew him. Peace Bro.
