Melvin Major

Melvin Major

Melvin Passed away the morning of Friday, March 24, 2023.  No arraangements have been made but any info will be posted here as they become available.  Melvin will be missed more than most people will know.  He did so much to make our Reunions successfull over the past 60 years. He was the hub to the wheel.  He and Steve Lickey created the Reunion Committee and he gave his time and his money to make it as good as any class.  RIP Melvin     You will be missed

I haven't been very active in Class of 65' events beyond the 50th reunion. But one of the people I have always remembered from my high school days was Melvin.  We were good friends in school and I was aware of how much time and effort he put into the 50th Reunion.

Rest in Peace, Melvin.  You will be sadly missed.

Soon after our graduation, I fell out of touch with and lost track of all but a few of you.  I would, however, check in with Melvin every now and then.  He was always there, my one constant link to our Hermitage days.  The news of his passing was devastating.  May I suggest that at least the Class of '65 make all or a significant part the upcoming reunion a celebration of Melvin's life and the lives of all our departed classmates.  Memories should be shared, stories should be told, and glasses should be raised.  Nothing sad or somber.  I doubt that is what Melvin would have wanted.

I'll be there with you in spirit.  Bob (Robbie)

I have known Melvin  since we were kids all the way through school.  Dropping by to chat at the store was  always a  treat.  You know, Melvin knew just about everything about most of our classmates. My  son, Chris, worked for Melvin from the  time he  could get a work permit (14) until graduation from high school and then some summers while at VT.  Everytime he came home he went to visit Melvin and was gone for hours.  I ran into John Harler the other day and we both agree this is a great loss not only for the class but also for the community at large. Melvin was very benevolent.  So REST IN PEACE my dear frind.  You are misssed by a lot of peiople.
