Wayne Holcomb

HOLCOMB, Mr. Wayne Leroy, Jr., On Tuesday, March 9, 2021, Wayne Leroy Holcomb Jr. of Poinciana, Florida, loving husband and father, passed away at the age of 73. Wayne was born in Wichita, Kansas on June 21, 1947 to Wayne Leroy Holcomb Sr. and Jean Williams Holcomb.

He grew up in Richmond, Virginia, graduated from Hermitage High School and earned his B.S. degree in Business Administration from Virginia Commonwealth University, where he was a member of Phi Delta Omega fraternity. After college, Wayne started a career as a stock broker, but quickly found his true passion in the food service industry. His other, more important, true love was his wonderful wife of 47 years, Dee Ann Johnson Holcomb, whom he married on April 15, 1973. Together, they raised their adopted daughter, Melissa Marie Holcomb Simons.

Wayne had a passion for fine food, consuming and preparing it. Attending a dinner at Wayne and Dee's home always brought a hope that the menu would include beef tenderloin and his famous Virginia crab soup. The meal would always be professionally prepared by "Chef" Wayne with the able assistance of "Sous Chef," Dee Ann. He also had a passion for landscaping, turning any yard they owned into the most eloquent and colorful garden; a talent he inherited from his father. He was also an aficionado and reader of all things related to World War II and the Civil War.

He was a proud Veteran of the U.S. Army Reserves and loved his country.

Wayne was preceded in death by his father, Wayne; and his mother, Jean. He is survived by his wife, Dee Ann; his daughter, Melissa (Wes) of Powhatan, Virginia; grandson, William Charles Simons, also of Powhatan; his brothers, David L. Holcomb (Margaret) of Fate, Texas, Richard D. Holcomb (A.C.) of Richmond, Virginia and John M. Holcomb also of Richmond; and several nephews and a niece.

A memorial service was conducted by the Veterans Club of Solivita at the Veterans Freedom Park on March 29. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations may be made to The Veterans Club of Solivita Scholarship Foundation, P.O. Box 581770, Poinciana, Fla. 34758.
