Lincie Ann Barnes (Briscoe)

Lincie Ann Barnes (Briscoe)

Lincie, who later went by the name Ann, passed away at her home in Thaxton, VA, on December 2, 2014.  She was a devoted mother, co-owner of Black Goose Chimney Sweep, and a member of Thaxton Baptist Church.  She started the local Tea Party and was an active participant in local government issues.  She loved playing video games, reading, gardening, and, most of all, spending time with her family.  Ann was also known for her quick wit and broad sense of humor.  She was survived by her husband of 28 years John Truman Briscoe, her three children Emma Caitlin Briscoe, Benjamin Phillip Stuart Briscoe, and Thomas Douglas Shelburne, her granddaughter Alexandra Michelle Shelburne, her brother Alton Barnes, her niece Nicole Barnes, and her nephew Matthew Barnes.

I was recently organizing a drawer that contained cards sent to me in 2007 when my mother passed away, and I found a card from Lincie.  It pained my heart when I read her message.  She and I were in the same Girl Scout troop, and our mothers were assistant leaders.  I'd earlier found a picture of Lincie in her uniform with her beautiful, long hair in a ponytail and sent it to her.  She had planned to send me a picture of her mother in her leader's uniform, but I guess she never discovered it.  Her final words to me said that the picture and the note I'd sent to her reminded her of things long ago.  Lincie and I became friends when we started first grade at Lakeside Elementary School.  It's hard to believe that was 52 years ago.
