Michelle Susan Swan (Martin)

Michelle Susan Swan (Martin)

Michelle Susan Swan Martin, 71, of Richmond, departed for Heaven on July 27, 2021. She was preceded in death by her parents, John L. Swan and Dorothy Andrews Swan. She is survived by her husband, Franklin Martin; daughter, Angela Martin (fiancé Matt McDonnell); brothers, Jon L. W. Swan (Barbara), Gary H. Swan; nieces and nephews, Jon Swan (Shelley), Jonna Thoma (Thomas), Gabriel Swan, Christopher Martin (Katie); and their children, Riley and Katelyn Thoma, Evelyn and Charlotte Swan, Gabriel Swan, Leo Martin.

She was born in Pasadena, Texas, on November 3, 1949, to John and Dorothy Swan and graduated from Hermitage High School in 1967. After receiving an associate's degree from John Tyler CC, she and Frank were married in 1970. An avid golfer, she enjoyed Pinehurst, Myrtle Beach, Scottsdale, and other destinations. Cruises, road trips, and National Park adventures fed her interest in photography. Retirement came in 2010 for time with family and friends and to support worthy causes such as Feed More, Comfort Zone Camp, and YMCA. She was a member of Hatcher Memorial Baptist Church.

Michelle loved to make others happy, often by hosting dinner parties and cookouts. Daughter Angela was the light of her life and in recent months, Michelle became her dedicated wedding planner. As best friends, they were inseparable. Her unlimited kindness and encouragement will be sorely missed. She made the best use of each moment and set the bar for our own success and happiness. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Feed More, Hatcher Memorial, or other organizations of your preference. A visitation of family and friends will be held from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, August 5, 2021, at Bliley's, 8510 Staples Mill Road, where a Celebration of Life will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, August 6, 2021, with interment to follow in Westhampton Memorial Park.

This is so shocking and heartbreaking.  Several classmates have seen and talked with her recently.  She was energetic and happily planning her daughter's wedding.  May the Peace of Christ be with Frank, Angela and her entire family during these difficult times.

I first got to know Michelle during our senior homeroom, and I remember laughing with Lewis Mills and her about how a cafeteria lady opened a cash register drawer during lunch and found a poor, dead mouse in a money slot.

After our 2002 35th-year class reunion, Michelle generously organized for a group of female classmates monthly dinners as well as several group trips to Myrtle Beach. Those dinners continue to this day.
