Donald passed away during our senior year on February 26, 1967, after a lengthy illness. He was survived by his parents and is buried with them at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Richmond, VA.
Donald and I attended kindergarten at Brook Hill School together, and were in Ms. Paulett's class. We were offered the opportunity to study under a teacher/tutor that summer together, and that enabled us to skip first grade. We were not in the same classes again, and sometimes not the same schools, but I always had a special fondness for this kind and gentle boy who turned into a courageous and cheerful soul, even through his protracted battle with bone cancer. I have never forgotten him. I so wish his life had been longer. He had so much to offer the world.

I remember Donald coming into Mr. Johnson's class, walking with crutches. He always held his head high.
