Milton & I were serious (perhaps, too serious) students of history when we met in the 7th grade.  Our teacher Franny Firebaugh Roberts was extraordinarily enthusiastic about Virginia history, which was a major subject in that year's curriculum.  In the final exam for the course, everyone else left (including friends Van Royster & Harold Paxton) over an hour before Milton & I.  While my examination essay was only seven pages long, Milton wrote an essay of 22 pages!

Later (in high school), Milton introduced me to local politics & political conventions.

Though my politics has vastly changed in character, it is Milton's zeal & steadfast ethical choices which I've always recalled when approaching a voting booth.

I'll deeply miss the absence of my friend at our 50th reunion.
