
Dickie was a sergeant in the U.S. Army and a radio relay carrier in Germany during the Vietnam era. He earned the National Defense Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, and the Marksman M-16 Rifle Badge. He later worked for and retired from the United States Postal Service as a mail handler. He was living in North Chesterfield, VA, and passed away on January 4, 2016, after a lengthy illness. He was survived by his son Perry S. Woodard, his sister Nancy Woodard Poole and her husband Harrison E. Poole, his niece Dina Michelle Poole Logo, his nephew Michael H. Poole, his aunt Frances Waters, and his cousins Randy Sweeney, Randi Rowe, and Robin Courtney.

When Dickie attended the 1987 20th year reunion, he was so excited because his wife Elaine was in labor at a hospital. He got the magic call and left us so he could meet his son, Perry Spencer Woodard.
