Beverly Eugenia Hammock (Lam)

Beverly Eugenia Hammock (Lam)

Beverly had been a teacher on Virginia's Eastern Shore and eventually went to live in Florida.  She was passionately involved in the Hollywood, FL, Boy Scouts and in the local Republican Party. She died unexpectedly at her home on January 13, 2016, and was survived by sons Chris and Michael.

I was fortunate to reunite with Beverly over lunch in 2012.  We discussed politics, our families (we both had twins), growing up in Lakeside and Laurel, and the times we shared at Hermitage.  She told me an amusing story about when she and a friend (a Hermitage alumnus) "borrowed" a horse from a barn that was on the property that is now Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens.  They were riding the horse until the caretaker of the property saw them and yelled for them to bring the horse back.  They jumped off and ran home!  Maybe Beverly's "partner in crime" will attend the reunion and tell me her side of the story!

Beverly and I were good friends and I was very sorry to find out on Facebook that she had died.  She holds a special place in my heart.

I reconnected with my friend Bev on Facebook, we often talked about Lakeside and Hermitage. I had, just a day or two before she died had sent her my Brundswick stew recipe. We talked at length about cooking some up. Living fairly close here in FL., we talked about getting together and even thought about going up for reunion together.. I hate to think of all the classmates that had long illnesses and suffered so long,  If any comfort can come from her passing, it is she didn't suffer long.  The reunion will not be the same this year without your smiling face. Rest in peace my friend.

I did not know Beverly, never met her. But from the comments I have been reading about her

she was "quite a lady."
